Poland Warns of⁢ Escalation: “If Putin ⁣Conquers Ukraine, We Will Be next”

Warsaw, Poland ‌- Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav‍ Sikorski has issued a stark warning, stating that a Russian victory in Ukraine would directly⁤ threaten Poland ⁣and ‍other nations. Sikorski predicts Ukraine will fight for at least another three years, potentially until Russia‘s strength is exhausted, echoing Ukrainian⁤ President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s assessment of a two-to-three ⁣year continuation of military operations.

Speaking in an interview ⁣with Polish broadcaster TVP World, Sikorski pointed to Russia’s decade-long struggle in Donbas as evidence of its limited success. He contrasted ⁤this with initial Russian expectations of a swift victory, recalling putin’s belief the invasion would be a “three-day special operation.” “Putin’s performance‌ was poor,” Sikorski stated. “He himself thought it would be an easy victory… More than ten years have⁢ passed and he is still fighting in Donbass. I wouldn’t call it a victory.”

Sikorski underscored the high stakes,⁣ declaring, “If Putin conquers Ukraine, we will be next, and then⁢ we would rather eat grass than become⁤ a Russian colony again.”

Poland is actively bolstering its defenses, having increased defense funding in recent⁣ years. The nation is also committed to continued support ‍for Ukraine, including funding for Starlink terminals and ammunition for air defense systems and long-range missile strikes ‍within Russian territory. Sikorski also urged the European Union⁣ to take a more assertive role in future peace negotiations.

He noted that Ukraine is preparing for a protracted conflict, anticipating a war lasting approximately three years, though‍ hoping it will not extend to the ten years typical of “colonial wars.” sikorski expressed hope that ⁣the United⁣ States will maintain its intelligence support for Ukraine throughout the conflict.
