UK & France Travel Chaos: BA & Air France Flights Delayed & Cancelled

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Thousands of passengers faced travel chaos this weekend as British Airways and Air France experienced widespread disruptions, delaying 183 flights and cancelling 8 across the United Kingdom, and France. Major airports in Paris, Edinburgh, London, and Nice were significantly impacted, leaving travelers stranded and scrambling for alternative arrangements.

The disruptions stemmed from a combination of severe weather conditions and operational issues, according to reports. Thunderstorms and high winds contributed to delays and complicated flight path planning, while crew shortages and aircraft maintenance further exacerbated the problems.

British Airways reported significant cancellations and delays, particularly affecting long-haul and European routes. Flight BAW229, scheduled to depart London Heathrow (LHR) for Baltimore/Washington International (KBWI) on Saturday at 3:35 PM GMT, was among those affected. Other impacted flights included BAW935 from Dusseldorf International (DUS) to London Heathrow (LHR), and BAW284 from San Francisco International (KSFO) to London Heathrow (LHR). Several flights scheduled for Sunday were also disrupted, including BAW117 from London Heathrow to John F. Kennedy International (KJFK) and BAW67 from London Heathrow to Philadelphia International (KPHL).

Air France also experienced extensive cancellations and delays, particularly on domestic and transatlantic flights. Flight AFR1887, scheduled to depart Edinburgh (EDI) for Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) on Sunday at 6:10 AM GMT, was cancelled. Other affected flights included AFR6202 from Paris Orly (ORY) to Nice Côte d’Azur (NCE), and AFR6205 from Nice Côte d’Azur (NCE) to Paris Orly (ORY). Several transatlantic flights were also impacted, including AFR62 from Charles de Gaulle/Roissy (CDG) to Newark Liberty International (KEWR) and AFR6 from Charles de Gaulle/Roissy (CDG) to John F. Kennedy International (KJFK).

The disruptions created a ripple effect across key airports. Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and London Heathrow Airport experienced long queues and increased passenger frustration as travelers sought alternative routes. Passengers in Edinburgh and Nice also faced difficulties, with many needing to find temporary accommodation and make last-minute travel arrangements.

Passengers are advised to frequently check flight statuses via airline websites or mobile apps. Purchasing travel insurance that covers delays and cancellations may also provide financial relief.
