UITP North America conference Spotlights LA’s Mobility Revolution, Prepares for Global Sporting Events
Los Angeles, CA – The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) North America Conference concluded this week in Los Angeles, showcasing the city’s ambitious reimagining of public transit and outlining strategies for managing large-scale events like the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 and LA28 Olympic and Paralympic games. The conference drew public transit professionals from around the world, fostering collaboration on innovation and solutions to pressing mobility challenges.
The UITP conference arrives at a critical juncture for public transportation,as cities globally strive to balance social equity wiht technological advancements. The event highlighted Los Angeles’ notable investments in its transit system - including the LAX/Metro Transit Center, Metro’s Security Operations Centres, Division 9’s next-generation bus infrastructure, and the Metro Art programme - and served as a platform for discussing best practices in areas like open-loop payment systems and efficient passenger movement. With preparations underway for major international sporting events, the focus on sustainable and safe transportation solutions is more vital than ever.
