UFC Vegas 108: Rodriguez Disqualified, New Main Event Emerges

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Piera Rodriguez, disqualified for an intentional headbutt, has broken her silence on the controversial fight-ending sequence, accusing her opponent Ariane Carnelossi of cowardice in a fiery social media post.

Rodriguez, 32, admitted to making a mistake in the heat of the moment but directed sharp criticism at Carnelossi’s reaction. “I’d rather lose a fight because of a mistake I did, than go home calling myself a ‘winner’ knowing I am a coward,” Rodriguez stated.”I made a big mistake, maybe because of adrenaline… But you have to go to sleep with that lie in your head your entire life! [Carnelossi] and you call yourself brave? I hope you and your team enjoy my money!”

Ariane Carnelossi Details Injuries Sustained in Bout

In a separate statement shared on her Instagram story, Ariane carnelossi detailed the injuries she sustained during the fight with Rodriguez. Carnelossi reported a fractured nose, an injury to her zygomatic bone, and the advancement of a blood clot in her sinus region. It remains unclear if these injuries were solely a result of the headbutt or accumulated damage from earlier in the fight.

Rodriguez has since rebounded from the disqualification, securing a victory over Josefine Knutsson in December. She is scheduled to return to the octagon against Ketlen Souza on August 2.
