UFC & OnSide Launch vital Mental health Programme for Wirral Youth
Wirral, UK – A new programme designed to bolster the mental and physical wellbeing of young people in Wirral is set to launch, thanks to an expanded partnership between the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and youth charity OnSide. The initiative, announced today, will provide weekly sessions focused on building crucial life skills and fostering a supportive environment for young men and women.
The programme will be led by expert instructors and aims to cultivate self-discipline, self-defense skills, confidence, coordination, and, crucially, mental resilience. These sessions will be delivered in a safe and supportive setting, recognizing the importance of a nurturing atmosphere for personal growth.
This expansion builds upon a successful collaboration between UFC and OnSide, which began in 2021. The partnership initially focused on delivering martial arts and mentoring programmes in South London (croydon), the Midlands (wolverhampton), and the Northwest (wigan). The addition of wirral signifies a continued commitment to reaching and supporting young people across the UK.
Central to the programme’s outreach is UFC fighter Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett, who will serve as an ambassador. Pimblett is widely recognised not only for his athletic achievements but also for his outspoken advocacy for mental health awareness and his dedication to charitable causes.
In 2022, Pimblett founded The Baddy Foundation, dedicated to tackling food insecurity and challenging the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. The foundation began wiht local initiatives in Liverpool and has since expanded its reach nationally. That same year, Pimblett generously donated £25,000 to James’ Place, a Liverpool-based suicide prevention charity.
Perhaps most powerfully,Pimblett’s emotional post-fight address in July 2022,where he urged men to openly discuss thier struggles rather than suffer in silence, resonated deeply with the public. james’ Place reported a remarkable 20% increase in referrals following his heartfelt plea, demonstrating the impact of his voice and vulnerability.
This new programme in wirral represents a critically important investment in the future wellbeing of local youth, providing them with the tools and support thay need to navigate challenges and thrive.the combination of physical training, mentoring, and mental health awareness promises to be a powerful force for positive change.
