STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team, ranked No. 1, secured its 64th consecutive Massive EAST victory with an 83-69 win over Villanova last Wednesday and will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday at noon against Providence in Gampel Pavilion.
Sunday’s game will honor Ice Brady, Caroline Ducharme, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson and Serah Williams, who will be recognized in a postgame ceremony. The ceremony will be live-streamed on the UConn women’s basketball X and Facebook pages, the UConn Huskies YouTube page, and UConn+.
UConn’s current senior class has been instrumental in a period of sustained success for the program. Since Ducharme and Fudd joined the team in 2021, the Huskies have posted a 159-21 overall record, capturing the 2025 National Championship, making two appearances in the NCAA Championship game, reaching three Final Fours, and winning nine conference championships.
The Huskies (28-0, 17-0 BIG EAST) clinched the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season championship with their victory over Villanova, earning the No. 1 seed in next month’s BIG EAST Tournament.
Against Villanova, Azzi Fudd led the scoring with 25 points, while sophomore Sarah Strong contributed a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, adding five steals. Junior Ashlynn Shade also made a significant impact with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. UConn overcame a halftime deficit of 40-37, outscoring Villanova 26-12 in the third quarter.
UConn holds a 51-21 all-time record against Providence, having won the last 38 meetings between the two teams. Their most recent matchup occurred on December 31 in Providence, resulting in a 90-53 victory for the Huskies. In that game, Fudd recorded 19 points, six assists, and four steals, while Strong added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Providence (14-14, 7-10) enters Sunday’s game having won its last four contests, including a 66-60 victory over DePaul. Sabou Gueye currently leads the Friars in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. Erin Batth is in her third season as head coach of the Providence women’s basketball program.
