DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis Aggies defeated the Long Beach State Beach 71-54 on Saturday, extending their winning streak and deepening a losing skid for the visiting team.
Marcus Wilson led all scorers with 18 points and also contributed six assists for UC Davis, improving their record to 16-10 overall and 9-6 in Big West Conference play. Connor Sevilla added 10 points for the Aggies, converting all four of his free throw attempts. Niko Rocak chipped in with nine points, including two successful three-point shots.
Long Beach State, now 8-18 on the season and 4-10 in conference matchups, suffered their seventh consecutive defeat. Freshman Gavin Sykes was the leading scorer for the Beach with 18 points, while Isaiah Lewis added 10 points and three steals. The 49ers struggled from the field, shooting just 36% overall and being significantly outmatched in three-point scoring, 24-9.
UC Davis established control early, racing to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes with baskets from Jalen Stokes, Wilson, and Sevilla. After Long Beach State briefly tied the game at 16-16, the Aggies responded with an 11-0 run to regain a substantial lead. They entered halftime ahead by 14 points, a margin they would maintain and extend throughout the second half.
The Aggies’ dominance was reflected in their rebounding advantage, 34-26, and their efficient shooting performance. Long Beach State’s Petar Majstorovic fouled out while scoring 8 points.
Long Beach State is scheduled to host UC Irvine on Thursday, February 20th at 7 p.m.
