Übersee Sets the Standard for Bavarian Municipal Cybersecurity
Übersee am Chiemsee, Bavaria – The municipality of Übersee has become the first in the Traunstein district, and among the earliest in all of Bavaria, to achieve the rigorous new “Municipal IT Security 4.0” seal from the Bavarian State Office for Information Security (LSI). The award recognizes Übersee’s commitment to robust cybersecurity practices and its proactive approach to protecting citizen data in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
The presentation of the seal took place at a formal ceremony attended by LSI President Bernd Geisler, who personally delivered the award to Mayor Herbert Strauch, alongside district Administrator Andreas Danzer. Claus Hofmann, the Traunstein district’s Information Security Officer, was also present, acknowledging his team’s support of Übersee throughout the certification process.
Version 4.0 of the LSI seal represents a meaningful escalation in security standards, incorporating lessons learned from recent municipal cybersecurity incidents. New evaluation criteria now encompass emerging threats and technologies, including cloud computing, IT emergency management, artificial intelligence, and supply chain vulnerabilities.
“Übersee exemplifies how forward-thinking municipal administrations are prioritizing IT security as a core management responsibility,” stated President Geisler. “This seal demonstrates their dedication to not only meeting current requirements, but also anticipating and addressing future challenges.”
District Administrator Danzer highlighted the broader impact of Übersee’s achievement. “The Traunstein district is proud to lead Bavaria with 100% of our municipalities holding an LSI security seal. Übersee’s attainment of the 4.0 level underscores our collective commitment to continuous improvement in cybersecurity.”
Information Security Officer Hofmann emphasized the district’s pragmatic approach. “We focus on implementing practical, real-world solutions that are truly effective in safeguarding our communities. In today’s digitally connected world, secure and reliable administrative structures are paramount, and Übersee is demonstrably leading the way.”
The “municipal IT Security 4.0” seal is valid for two years and confirms that Übersee meets heightened legal and technical standards while actively investing in the ongoing progress of its IT security infrastructure. This achievement positions Übersee as a model for other bavarian municipalities striving to protect their digital assets and ensure the trust of their citizens.
