South Tyrolean Taekwondo Athletes shine at Italian Championships

Messina, Italy – South Tyrolean Taekwondo athletes delivered notable performances at the Italian Senior Black Belt Championships, held this week at the PalaRescifina in Messina. the competition,organized by FITA – the highest national authority in Olympic Taekwondo - drew approximately 400 athletes from across Italy,showcasing the nation’s top talent in the martial art.
Fürler Secures Silver, Oberhofer Claims Bronze
Laura Fürler of Taekwondo Brixen earned a silver medal in the fiercely contested under 73-kilogram weight class, becoming the Italian runner-up.Fürler demonstrated a commanding presence throughout the tournament, securing a confident victory in the semi-finals before facing off against multiple-time Italian champion Ceccantin in the final. The match was exceptionally close, with Fürler narrowly missing the gold.
Alexander Oberhofer, representing Taekwondo South Tyrol – Eurotherm, added to the region’s success with a bronze medal in the under 87-kilogram category.The reigning Italian champion advanced from the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory, but ultimately fell short in a tight semi-final bout against national team athlete Gerrone.
Seventeen-year-old Maya Wenin of Terlan also showcased promising potential, delivering a solid performance despite a narrow 1:2 loss.

The achievements of these athletes are a testament to the dedicated coaching of Alessandro Carbucicchio (Brixen) and Milan Guba (South Tyrol). Thier focused training regimens have demonstrably elevated their protégés to a national competitive level.
