The New York Mets have expressed interest in acquiring Minnesota Twins lefty reliever Danny Coulombe, according to a report from the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
Coulombe, 35, is experiencing a resurgence this season, posting a 0.68 ERA with a 1-0 record and two saves across 35 appearances. He has recorded 29 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings pitched.
This marks Coulombe’s 11th major league season. He debuted with the Los Angeles dodgers in 2014 before being traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2015. Coulombe signed with the Yankees in August 2019 but did not pitch for the team. His previous tenure with the Twins spanned from 2020 to 2022, and he spent the last two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
Across his career, Coulombe has made 323 appearances, with all but two coming in relief. He holds a career ERA of 3.27.
Any team acquiring Coulombe would likely view him as a short-term rental. He is currently earning $3 million this year and is slated to become a free agent after the World Series.
