Twerk From Home Aims to Professionalize Twerking, Offers‍ Crypto Payments Amidst Industry Stigma

NEW YORK Twerk From Home ⁢(TFH), a new platform hosting competitive twerking tournaments, is seeking to legitimize the dance style as a professional sport while addressing financial barriers faced by ‍exotic dancers. The platform launched its first tournament this month, offering a $10,000 prize pool, ‍and plans to expand into other dance niches.

While TFH currently faces challenges in judging objectivity, relying heavily on‍ audience⁣ appeal, founder and CEO Mahavuthivanij intends to implement expert commentary to educate viewers and foster a more‌ skill-based evaluation system. “Once people begin to understand ⁢what they should look for, so we can begin to evolve towards that next level of objectivity versus strictly subjectivity,” ⁢Mahavuthivanij told Decrypt.

The move comes as exotic dancers increasingly face financial exclusion, with many reporting closed bank accounts – a problem that has also impacted the wider sex work industry, according to a recent Self-reliant report. ⁤ To circumvent these issues, TFH‌ is offering ‍dancers ⁤the option of receiving prize money in cryptocurrency.

“This is ⁢something that has always‍ been here, and will continue to be,” Mahavuthivanij said, referencing ⁣the stigmatization faced by dancers. “And ⁢I think it’s time for us to provide legitimacy for it.” TFH hopes to provide a platform not ‍only for competition but also for recognition and financial ⁣stability within a traditionally marginalized field.
