Tucumán Vaccination Stand: Flu, COVID & Dengue Shots Available

Tucumán Boosts Public Health with Mobile Vaccination Drive on Mendoza Pedestrian Street

TUCUMÁN, ARGENTINA – The Ministry of Public Health in Tucumán has launched a vital public health initiative, establishing a vaccination stand on the bustling Mendoza pedestrian street. This strategic move aims to make essential vaccines readily accessible to the public navigating the city’s central hub, operating daily from 9 AM to 2 PM.

Public Health Minister Luis Medina Ruiz emphasized the critical importance of vaccination against influenza and COVID-19, particularly during the colder months. He highlighted Tucumán’s extensive network of over 340 public vaccination centers. Minister Medina Ruiz also lauded the province’s triumphant cardiovascular programme, which has demonstrably saved lives through the timely administration of thrombolytic medications for heart attack patients.

“This week, we are positioned here on Mendoza pedestrian street to vaccinate individuals who are passing through for errands or shopping, taking advantage of the winter break,” stated Minister Medina Ruiz.

He further clarified the vaccination recommendations: the flu vaccine is advised for individuals over 65 and those with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, COPD, or kidney disease. For COVID-19,vaccines and boosters are recommended for those who have not received a dose in over a year. The dengue vaccine, comprising a two-dose regimen, is available for individuals aged 10 to 49. Additionally, he stressed the importance of completing routine childhood and adult vaccination schedules.

Dr. Miguel Ferre Contreras, Head of the province’s Immunizations Department, elaborated on the flu vaccine’s purpose: “The flu vaccine aims to prevent severe illness, especially in at-risk populations.”

“We are here on Mendoza pedestrian street, between Mendoza and Dolls streets, throughout this week to administer the flu vaccine to those for whom it is indicated,” Dr. Ferre contreras explained. “We also encourage the public to receive the dengue vaccine. Although dengue is not prevalent during these colder days, it’s a proactive measure to prepare for the upcoming season.”

He underscored vaccination as a cornerstone of disease prevention, particularly for influenza, which can lead to serious complications in older adults whose immune defenses might potentially be compromised. The vaccination operation will continue on Mendoza pedestrian street from 9 AM to 2 PM throughout the week. The Ministry of Health encourages the public to take advantage of this convenient prospect. While not mandatory, bringing identification (DNI) is recommended to streamline the process. Health personnel will be on hand to provide guidance and support.
