Peter Hickman Aims for Redemption at Isle of Man TT 2025 After Disappointing 2024
Peter Hickman, the Isle of Man TT lap record holder, is setting his sights on a triumphant return in 2025 after a year that, by his own admission, fell short of expectations. Despite securing a Superbike race win, a rare crash in the Senior TT left him wanting more. Now, with a new team structure and renewed focus, hickman is determined to reclaim his winning form.
The Highs and Lows of 2024
The isle of Man TT is an event where even minor setbacks can snowball into significant disappointments. for Hickman,2024 presented a unique set of challenges. He acknowledged feeling not quite cozy from the beginning with the FHO Racing BMW team
, a factor that ultimately led to their split despite an existing two-year deal.Adding to the complexity,he also wasn’t at peak physical condition.
However, Hickman remains philosophical about the experience. Things are never that easy.I wish it was, but it never is,
he said. Reflecting on his performance, he added, It didn’t go the way we wanted it to, but at the same time I had four really strong years previous to that, and I was probably due a bad year.
Even with the challenges, Hickman maintains a sense of viewpoint. If a ‘bad year’ is a win, three second places and to walk away from slipping off, then that isn’t that bad a year at all,
he stated. He emphasized that external factors played a role, noting, It’s a bad year by my standards, or what’s expected of me, or what I expect of myself, but then there was also a lot of other things going on in the background, things that people don’t get to see.
Ultimately, Hickman views 2024 as a learning experience. 2024 was a tough year, but you only get the real big highs with some lows, and 2024 was a low so let’s see what 2025 brings,
he concluded.
Looking ahead: A New Team and Renewed Confidence
For the 2025 TT, hickman is embarking on a new chapter with the 8Ten team, co-owned by himself and fellow racer Davey Todd. This fresh start has instilled a sense of optimism and confidence. He stated that he feels the best that I’ve probably felt on the bike in a really long time. Maybe even ever.
While acknowledging the inherent difficulties of the TT, Hickman is aiming high. I’ve entered all eight [non-sidecar] races at the TT, and I want to walk away with eight wins, but of course that’s also a massive tall order. But hey, who knows? Miracles can sometimes happen, and we’re hoping for one this year,
he said.
He understands the complexities involved in achieving success at the TT. It’s a tall order, because so many things have to come together at TT for it to work. To win one race is super difficult, and to win two or more is even more difficult, so who even really knows?
Hickman explained.
Despite the challenges, Hickman’s motivation remains unwavering. We’re there because we want to win.that’s what we want to do. I’m looking forward to it, and I’m feeling really happy with myself and with the team, with the people we’ve got around us,
he said.
The positive team habitat is a crucial factor for Hickman. It’s a really happy team again, which is how it used to be and how we like it, and definitely how I like it as a rider,
he emphasized.
Ultimately,Hickman is approaching the 2025 TT with a focus on enjoyment and camaraderie. I want to go and enjoy myself, to have good fun and to be with my mates and my missus and my family, and to have a really good time at the TT. I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get going,
he concluded.
