TSV 1860 Munich President Calls for Swift Coaching Change amidst Losing streak
Munich, Germany – TSV 1860 Munich President Peter Mang has publicly signaled a clear break with recently departed coach Michael Glöckner, prioritizing the immediate appointment of a new head coach following a concerning run of form. The club has lost four of its last five games, slipping to twelfth in the league standings.
Mang acknowledged the league pause offered an prospect for a new coach to integrate with the team, but cautioned that further delays in the search would negatively impact preparations. “We just have to stay calm now, analyze things together and than strategically take the next step,” Mang stated, emphasizing, “A new coach is now a priority.”
The President’s comments were widely interpreted as criticism of Glöckner’s tenure. Mang outlined key areas for enhancement, stating the team had stagnated, suffered from physical deficits, and lacked sufficient integration of young players. “It is important for us…that he will continue to bring the team to a fit and relies on the young players,” Mang said, detailing the qualities he seeks in a replacement.
Interim managing director Manfred Paula faces pressure to quickly identify a coach capable of revitalizing the team’s attack, which has struggled for consistent threat. Former 1860 assistant coach Stefan Reisinger, appearing as an expert commentator, highlighted the offensive struggles, stating, “If you see what strikers in the front! And then they don’t come for 70 minutes in front of the goal! It’s just terrifying.”
Goalkeeper coach and replacement goalkeeper René Vollath defended the team, acknowledging the impact of recent disappointments. “We are all just people…The self-image is missing when the game becomes more difficult, then doubts arise,” Vollath said, urging a swift return to form. He emphasized the need for a coach with “a very clear plan, a very clear idea, which the team then also accepts as their identity,” and establishing “a matter of course in all processes.”
