Trump Threatens Iran as U.S. Aviator Rescue Details Emerge

President Donald Trump announced Sunday that U.S. Forces have rescued a crew member of an F-15E fighter jet shot down over Iran.

The rescued officer, identified by the president as a highly respected Colonel, was retrieved from deep within the mountains of Iran during a daylight operation. According to a statement posted to Truth Social, the mission involved dozens of aircraft armed with lethal weaponry and required U.S. Forces to spend seven hours over Iranian territory.

The Colonel sustained injuries during the incident but is reported to be safe. This operation marks the second recovery from the same aircraft; the jet’s pilot was rescued on Friday shortly after the plane was downed. President Trump described the separate recoveries as the first time in military memory that two U.S. Pilots have been rescued separately within enemy territory.

The F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down Friday morning in southwestern Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the strike, and Iranian state media subsequently released photographs of debris consistent with an American F-15.

The rescue takes place as the war with Iran enters its sixth week. The downed aircraft had been supporting Operation Epic Fury. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the president remained in the Oval Office throughout the day, receiving constant updates from the Secretary of War.

Whereas the U.S. Military confirmed the successful retrieval of the Colonel, Iranian sources have provided conflicting reports. Iran claims that another U.S. Aircraft involved in the rescue mission was shot down in the province of Isfahan. As of Sunday, Iranian officials have neither confirmed nor denied the rescue of the American service member.

President Trump is scheduled to hold a news conference on Monday to provide further details regarding the operation.
