Trump Announces $15 Billion‍ Libel Suit Against The New York Times

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump stated he is⁣ filing a $15 billion libel lawsuit against The⁢ New York Times, escalating a long-running dispute with the newspaper. The proclamation came after the Times published‌ articles regarding ⁤a lewd⁢ drawing and birthday⁤ message allegedly signed by Trump and found ⁤within convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s records.

“The ⁣New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame ⁤me for far too long, and that stops, NOW,”⁤ Trump said.He indicated‍ the suit would be filed in ⁢Florida but ‍did not provide further details. Trump also accused other‍ media outlets of‍ “smearing” through “a highly complex system of document and visual alteration,” though he offered no supporting evidence.

The‍ lawsuit follows ‍recent threats made by‌ Trump against the Times after the publication of articles concerning the alleged birthday note to Epstein, which appeared ‍in a book commemorating Epstein’s 50th birthday. Trump has denied⁢ signing the note, and the⁤ White House questioned its authenticity. The New York Times published an analysis comparing the signature on the note to Trump’s signatures from letters dating back to 1987-2001, ⁣noting similarities. Trump’s lawyer reportedly ⁢contacted the Times, alleging “malicious fabrications” and demanding a retraction and apology, which the newspaper did not issue.

This is a developing story.
