hamas Weighs Trump‘s Peace Plan, Faces Sunday Deadline
Gaza City/Jerusalem – Hamas is currently in consultations regarding former President Trump’s peace plan and has requested clarifications and guarantees before offering a response, according to statements released Friday. The group has been given untill Sunday night to accept the proposal.
The plan has raised “concern points,” stated Hamas Politburo member Mohammad Nazzal to Al Jazeera, adding, “we will announce our position on it soon.” Nazzal emphasized Hamas’s commitment to finding an agreement, noting ongoing contact with mediators and “Arab and muslim partners.” This growth comes just two days after the plan was presented, signaling a rapid and potentially critical juncture in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Hamas has specifically sought assurances from Qatar, Turkey, and the United States to prevent Israeli control of the Gaza Strip without a corresponding withdrawal commitment, as reported by Islamic Jihad. The group also seeks modifications to terms involving the disarmament and potential expulsion of Hamas leaders.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated to The Times of Israel that they are awaiting Hamas’s response but will continue thier military operation in Gaza regardless. “Israel has not withdrawn and still follows its plans,” the office confirmed.
The situation remains fluid as the Sunday deadline approaches, with the fate of the peace plan - and the future of the region – hanging in the balance.
