In a surprising diplomatic exchange,U.S. President Donald Trump gifted Belarusian President alexander Lukashenko cufflinks depicting the white House, according to Lukashenko’s press service, as reported by European Pravda.
The gift was presented through U.S. President’s Special Representative to Ukraine, who recalled being stopped as he was leaving the Oval Office. “He [Trump] stopped me and asked, ‘Wait, stop, stop, don’t forget to give it to the president,'” Cole stated.
This exchange occurs as the United States recently lifted sanctions on Belavia, the Belarusian national airline, and intends to reopen it’s embassy in minsk. In August, President Lukashenko and President Volodimirs Zeļenskis exchanged gifts; Zeļenskis presented Trump with a golf stick gifted by a Ukrainian soldier, while Trump reciprocated with symbolic White house keys to Zeļenskis.
