Trump Posthumously awards Presidential Medal of Freedom to Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump today awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, to Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist who was murdered last month. Kirk’s widow accepted the award during a ceremony held on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
The posthumous honor recognizes Kirk’s influence as a conservative voice and his support for Trump’s presidency. Trump stated at the ceremony, “Today we are here to honor and remember a fearless fighter for freedom, a beloved leader who inspired the next generation.” The award comes amidst heightened political tensions and follows Kirk’s death in September, wich has sparked debate and legal proceedings.
Kirk, 32, was shot and killed on the campus of Utah Valley University during a gathering with students. He was a key figure in conservative circles and credited by Trump as instrumental in his re-election. Tyler Robinson,22,has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting,and the US attorney general in utah intends to seek the death penalty.
Established in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is bestowed upon individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the United States. Past recipients include Steve jobs, Elvis Presley, Rosa Parks, and Simone Biles. Following the ceremony, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it would revoke visas for foreigners critical of Kirk.
