Trat Prison Officer Dies After Medical Emergency at Gas Station
Trat, Thailand – A 54-year-old correctional officer from Trat Prison died September 7, 2025, after collapsing outside a gas station in Wang Krachae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province. Mr. Wiwat Leowakul was pronounced dead at Trat Hospital following a frantic resuscitation attempt.Mr. Wiwat had recently been discharged from trat Hospital, having been treated from September 3-6 for lower body pain. He had a known history of both diabetes and hepatitis. According to witnesses, Mr. Wiwat was found unconscious with saliva coming from his mouth in front of teh bathroom at the gas station after his vehicle became disabled. A bottle of potassium chloride was discovered in his truck.
Good Samaritan Mr. Natthaphong Chumnurak alerted rescue services after discovering Mr. Wiwat. “I was parking to go to the bathroom. Before turning to see that a man was unconscious in front of the bathroom with water flowing out of his mouth. He therefore quickly called to inform the said rescue personnel,” Mr. Natthaphong stated.
Police, led by Pol. Col.Sombat Kaewmamon of Muang Trat Police Station, are investigating the incident and have notified Mr. Wiwat’s family. His body has been released for religious rites. The incident highlights the potential health risks faced by correctional officers and the importance of ongoing medical care for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
