Huntingdon, cambridgeshire – Nine people have sustained life-threatening injuries following a stabbing incident aboard a train near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, police have confirmed. Emergency services responded to the scene on Wednesday, November 1, and a suspect is in custody.
The incident occurred on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service, causing major disruption to east coast mainline services. All lines through Huntingdon station remain blocked, and LNER has advised passengers not to travel. The attack has prompted a swift response from political figures and a public appeal for details from Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated, “The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.”
Huntingdon MP Ben obese-Jecty described the emergency response as “very reassuring” and “speedy and effective,” adding, ”I’ve simply never seen as big a response to an emergency incident as there were in terms of police, fire and ambulance.”
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed being “deeply saddened” by the stabbings and urged the public to avoid speculation. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp characterized the event as “a brutal mass attack,” calling for updates from police and the goverment.

LNER confirmed the incident and stated, “We are experiencing major disruption across the LNER route. Emergency services are dealing with an incident at Huntingdon station; all lines are blocked. our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’. Please defer your travel where you can.”
