Train Stabbing in Cambridgeshire: Nine Injured, Two Arrested

Huntingdon, ‌cambridgeshire – Nine people have sustained​ life-threatening injuries following ⁢a stabbing incident aboard a train ​near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire,​ police have confirmed. Emergency services responded to‌ the scene⁣ on Wednesday, November 1, and a suspect is in custody.

The incident occurred on a London North Eastern⁤ Railway ⁢(LNER) service, causing major disruption to east coast mainline services. All lines through Huntingdon station⁣ remain blocked, and LNER has advised passengers not to travel. The attack has prompted a swift response from political figures and⁣ a public appeal for details ⁤from Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated, “The appalling incident on ⁢a train ‌near Huntingdon is⁣ deeply concerning. My thoughts are ‌with all those affected, and my thanks go to ​the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should ​follow the advice of the⁤ police.”

Huntingdon‌ MP Ben obese-Jecty described the emergency response as “very reassuring” and “speedy and effective,” adding, ‌”I’ve simply never seen⁢ as‍ big a response to an emergency incident as there were in terms of police, fire and ambulance.”

Home Secretary‍ Shabana Mahmood expressed being “deeply saddened” by the stabbings and urged ⁣the ⁤public to avoid‌ speculation. ‌Shadow Home ‌Secretary Chris⁤ Philp characterized the event as “a brutal mass attack,” ‌calling for updates from⁢ police and ⁤the goverment.

cambridgeshire Constabulary is requesting information from the public regarding ⁤the incident, directing individuals to ⁣report⁤ details online quoting incident 495 of November‍ 1, ⁢or by calling 101.

LNER confirmed the incident⁢ and stated, “We are experiencing major disruption across the LNER‍ route.​ Emergency services are ⁣dealing with an incident at Huntingdon station; all lines are blocked. our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’. Please defer your travel where you can.”
