Train Crew Member Discharged After Heroic Rescue on London Train

Train‌ Worker Returns⁣ Home‌ After Heroic Actions During Cambridgeshire ​Train Attack

A railway employee seriously injured while intervening⁤ during a stabbing on a train​ in Cambridgeshire ⁤is now recovering at home, authorities​ have confirmed.

Samir Zitouni,⁢ 48, a customer experience host with London North ⁤Eastern Railway (LNER), ⁣was working ⁢on‌ the ⁤1 November LNER service travelling ‌from​ Doncaster to London when⁤ the incident occurred near Huntingdon.⁢ LNER has acknowledged Zitouni’s actions⁣ likely saved ‍lives as passengers faced a threat ‌onboard. ⁢His role typically ⁢involves providing catering ​services to passengers.

British Transport Police reported on Saturday that Zitouni, who had been ​in critical ⁢condition ⁣with⁢ multiple injuries, ⁤was discharged‍ from hospital thanks to the care​ of NHS medical staff.

“Samir Zitouni had ​been in a critical condition ‌having suffered multiple injuries, adn⁣ thanks to the efforts of ⁣NHS medical staff he’s been able⁣ to be discharged from hospital today,” ⁤the force stated.

Zitouni was one of eleven‌ people hospitalised following the attack, which began shortly after⁣ the train ⁢departed Peterborough ⁤station. ‍Other injured passengers included 22-year-old Jonathan Gjoshe, a ​footballer with Scunthorpe United, ⁣who ⁣received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, ⁢and 61-year-old Stephen Crean, who ⁢sustained stab wounds.

Zitouni’s family expressed ⁤gratitude for the public support and acknowledged ‍the bravery shown during the attack. They requested privacy as he continues his recovery. “We are ‍so grateful for the outpouring of support from the public, and very touched by⁣ all the kind words about Sam’s brave actions on‌ the night⁢ of the attack.While we ‍are really happy to have him ⁤home, he still has a important recovery ahead and we would now like⁤ to be left in privacy​ to care for him as a family.”

Anthony Williams, 32, of Peterborough, has been ⁢remanded in custody ⁢and charged with ⁤ten counts of attempted murder, two ⁢counts of​ possessing a bladed article, and one count of actual bodily harm. One attempted murder‍ charge relates to a separate incident​ at ⁣a London station. He ⁤is scheduled to appear at ‌Cambridge‍ Crown Court on December 1st.
