Free Event to explore the ancient Healing Power of Traditional Chinese Medicine
SANTIAGO, CHILE – A free event offering a extensive introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is set to take place, providing insights into its potential as a complementary health modality. Organized jointly by the Family and community Health Area of Cusfyc and the china Superior technical Institute of Medicine, the day will feature presentations covering the core principles and practices of this millennia-old medical system.
TCM views health as a state of balance between vital energy, known as Qi, and opposing forces of Yin and Yang. The event will delve into the foundational concepts of TCM physiology, including the Five Elements, Zang Fu organ systems, and the network of meridians and collaterals that govern the flow of Qi. Attendees will also learn about TCM pathology, the role of immunity and Zheng Qi, diffrent types of Qi, and the pathogenic factors – Xie Qi – believed to disrupt health.
Practical applications of TCM will be a key focus, with discussions on treatment methods such as acupuncture, Tuina (therapeutic massage), and qigong (energy cultivation exercises). A significant portion of the event will be dedicated to exploring the growing field of integrative medicine, examining how TCM can be effectively combined with Western medical approaches.
Notably, the event will showcase a real-world example of this integration through a presentation detailing a collaborative work experience between TCM practitioners and Western medical professionals at the CIC 907 community health center in Maipú.
“Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic system that seeks to restore and maintain health by addressing the root causes of imbalance,” explains a background overview of TCM. “It utilizes therapies like acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, herbal medicine, massage, and movement exercises like Tai Chi. Disruptions to the flow of Qi, whether from external or internal factors, are considered the underlying cause of disease within the TCM framework.”
