The magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday triggered the widespread tsunami alerts, impacting numerous coastal areas from Hokkaido to Wakayama Prefecture.
Among the affected facilities are Toyota’s plants located in Iwate and Miyagi prefectures, both situated in the northeastern part of the country. These regions are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of seismic activity and subsequent tsunami threats.
Nissan Motor Co. has also reported operational impacts due to the seismic event and subsequent advisories. The company has halted production at its auto assembly plant and two parts plants in Kanagawa and Fukushima prefectures, highlighting the broad reach of these supply chain disruptions.
