Tory Lanez and Raina Chassagne Divorce Case Dismissed by Judge

August 8, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

A Los Angeles judge has dismissed the divorce petition filed by Raina Chassagne against incarcerated singer Tory Lanez, leaving the couple’s legal marital status unresolved. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the court terminated the proceeding due to insufficient activity to move the case toward a final judgment.

Court Dismisses Case Over Inactivity

The recent court action closes the divorce proceeding without issuing a substantive ruling on the marriage. Per court documents cited by TMZ, the dismissal stems from a lack of procedural momentum rather than any reconciliation between the parties. Chassagne initially filed for the dissolution of the marriage in June 2024, less than a year after wedding Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson. In her initial filing, Chassagne cited irreconcilable differences and requested both legal and physical custody of the couple’s son, Kai.

Intersection of Family Law and Criminal Proceedings

The divorce filing unfolded entirely in the shadow of Peterson’s ongoing criminal sentence. A Los Angeles County jury convicted Peterson in December 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded and unregistered firearm, and negligently discharging a firearm. Prosecutors established during the trial that Peterson shot rapper Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, following an argument after a Hollywood Hills gathering in 2020. Following the verdict, a judge sentenced Peterson to 10 years in prison in August 2023. Peterson has consistently maintained his innocence and continues to pursue legal challenges against his conviction.

When high-profile personal disputes intersect with complex criminal matters, navigating public scrutiny and administrative hurdles requires specialized guidance.

Family Dynamics and Ongoing Contact

Despite the dismissed divorce action and Peterson’s incarceration at a 10-year sentence, Chassagne has maintained active communication channels between the singer and their son. Court and public records indicate that Chassagne has facilitated visits, bringing Kai to see his father in prison and sharing documentation of those visits publicly. Chassagne also marked Father’s Day by posting throwback photographs highlighting the family connection. Representatives for Peterson have not publicly commented on the dismissal, and Chassagne’s attorney did not immediately provide a statement.

Managing logistics and sensitive scheduling around institutional visits or high-visibility personal events often necessitates professional coordination.

The termination of the family law proceeding leaves the couple’s formal marital status unchanged while Peterson pursues separate appeals regarding his 2020 conviction. Any future legal action between the spouses will require a completely separate proceeding.
