Toronto FC Signs Djordje Mihailovic: $8 Million Transfer Deal Confirmed

Toronto, OntarioToronto FC has substantially bolstered its attacking midfield with the acquisition of Djordje Mihailovic from the Colorado Rapids for a reported $8 million, including $1 million in potential add-ons. The deal, first reported by GiveMeSport’s Tom Bogert on Monday, marks a club-record transfer fee for the Rapids.

The 25-year-old Mihailovic, a Jacksonville, Florida native, arrives in Toronto after a successful stint with Colorado, where he tallied 23 goals and 18 assists in 63 appearances across all competitions as joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2024. Prior to his time with the Rapids,Mihailovic showcased his Major League Soccer (MLS) prowess with CF Montreal,featuring in 68 matches from 2021-2022 and contributing 16 goals and 21 assists.

Sources indicate that the Rapids initially resisted offers for Mihailovic during the summer transfer window. Though, a direct request from the player to pursue a move ultimately prompted Colorado to negotiate with Toronto FC. The agreement also includes a sell-on clause, ensuring the Rapids will benefit from a percentage of any future transfer fee should TFC decide to sell Mihailovic.

While the transfer is largely complete, Mihailovic is currently in negotiations with toronto FC regarding a long-term contract extension. The club is reportedly keen to secure his services for years to come, recognizing his potential to become a key figure in thier attack.

This acquisition comes on the heels of another financial boost for TFC. Earlier Monday, the club received $100,000 in allocation money from Los Angeles FC following the completion of Scottish defender Ryan Porteous’s transfer from Watford. Toronto FC retained the MLS discovery priority rights to Porteous, triggering the payment from LAFC.
