Tom Brady revealed Tuesday that his current dog, Junie, is a clone of a beloved pet who died last year. The former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst shared the news in a statement released thru Colossal biosciences, a biotechnology firm focused on genetic engineering and de-extinction, in which he is an investor.
Brady explained he collaborated with Colossal to clone Lua, a pit bull mix he and his former wife, Gisele Bündchen, adopted. The cloning process utilized a blood sample taken from Lua before her death in december 2023. “I love my animals,” Brady said in the statement. “They mean the world to me and my family. A few years ago,I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”
The proclamation coincided with Colossal’s acquisition of viagen Pets and Equine, another animal cloning company-marking the biotech startup’s first major acquisition. Valued at $10 billion, Colossal aims to apply it’s technologies to both pet cloning and the enterprising goal of reviving extinct species. In late 2024, the company claimed to have successfully birthed three dire wolf pups through cloning and gene editing, a claim that has been met with skepticism from organizations like the International Union for Conservation of nature.
Brady and Bündchen divorced in 2022.
