USD Toreros Head to Arizona⁢ State⁢ for Thanksgiving Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. ⁤- The University of san Diego Toreros women’s basketball team (2-2) will participate in the Arizona State Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend, facing Little ​Rock and​ Southeast Missouri ⁢State in neutral site contests. This marks the first time USD will meet either program in its history.

San Diego rebounded from a ⁢two-game losing streak​ with a 57-48 victory over New Mexico State on ⁤Monday ​at ⁤Jenny Craig Pavilion. The toreros’ freshmen played a pivotal role in the win, contributing a​ combined 37 points.

Olivia ⁣Owens led the Toreros against the Aggies ‌with 17 points,six ⁣assists,and ​four rebounds. ayla ​Williams made her collegiate debut‌ in the starting ​lineup, securing ‌14 rebounds and going 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Ysabella Von Spieler ‍added 11 points, including a crucial three-pointer to seal the victory, reaching double figures for⁢ the second time this season.

Little Rock (1-3) ‍enters Saturday’s game after defeating Central Baptist⁢ but falling to Memphis,Arkansas⁢ State,and Arkansas. Jordan Holman, a graduate ‍student​ wing, leads the Trojans in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game. Opponents are shooting nearly 40% ‌from three-point range against Little rock this season. USD ‌will⁣ face Little Rock in the second ​game of⁢ a back-to-back for⁣ the Trojans,following a‌ Friday afternoon matchup against tournament host Arizona State.

Southeast Missouri State (2-2) has secured wins against Evansville ‌and Wichita State, but has lost ⁢to illinois and Missouri State. Lexi McCully, a graduate student guard, paces the⁤ Redhawks’ offense, averaging 10.1‍ points per game⁤ while shooting 42%‍ from the field and 35% from beyond the ⁢arc. San​ Diego will aim to exploit⁣ Southeast Missouri State’s rebounding weakness, as the ⁤Redhawks are being out-rebounded by an average of nine boards per game, while‍ the Toreros have⁢ demonstrated strength on the offensive glass.

the Toreros will play their first ‍two⁢ neutral site games of the season at the tournament, with their next ⁣neutral site contest not scheduled until the West Coast⁣ Conference Tournament in early March.
