Manchester Woman Credits Menopause Support Hub with Saving Her Life
MANCHESTER,UK – A 46-year-old woman from Collyhurst, manchester,is sharing her story of debilitating menopause symptoms that led to suicidal thoughts, and how a local support hub pulled her back from the brink. Liza Davies, who began experiencing severe symptoms in September 2024, says the hub provided a lifeline when she felt “like I was losing my mind.”
Menopause affects over 51% of the population with a uterus, yet remains shrouded in stigma and frequently enough misdiagnosed, leaving countless women to suffer in silence. Davies’ experience highlights the urgent need for increased awareness, accessible resources, and compassionate support for those navigating this often-overlooked life stage. Her story underscores a growing movement to “break the silence around menopause” and empower women to reclaim their wellbeing.
davies described a period of overwhelming confusion, relentless physical symptoms, and uncontrollable agitation and anger. “I was overwhelmed, confused, and felt like I was losing my mind,” she said. “The physical symptoms were relentless, and the emotional toll was even harder to explain.” At her lowest point, she admits to contemplating suicide ”most days.”
The turning point came with the discovery of a local menopause support hub, which Davies credits with offering “clarity, compassion, and connection when I needed it most.” She found a community where she felt understood, access to empowering resources, and support that alleviated her feelings of isolation. “I found a community that understood me, resources that empowered me, and support that made me feel less alone,” she explained.
While acknowledging she is still on her journey, Davies says she has “come a long way” and is now focused on rebuilding her life. “I am not 100% there yet but I have come a long way. I have started to rebuild my life and with time, patience and the support of Leonie and the group I will get there.”
Inspired by her own transformation, Davies has trained as a “menopause champion,” dedicating herself to supporting others experiencing similar challenges. “It creates a space where people feel seen, heard, and validated,” she said. “It truly saved me and now I’m committed to helping it save others.”
