BREAKING NEWS: Retired Israeli Major General Warns Türkiye – ‘We Buried Our Heads in the Sand, We Can’t Ignore It’
JERUSALEM - A retired Israeli major general, Amos ziv, issued a stark warning regarding Syria and Türkiye’s role within it, stating Israel “buried its head in the sand” for too long. Ziv‘s comments, reported by milliyet, center on a proposed shift in security responsibility and a direct threat of Israeli air strikes should perceived terrorist preparations go unchecked.
Ziv argued that the evolving power dynamics in Syria necessitate Türkiye’s acknowledgement of its influence, but that any security arrangement must prioritize Syrian army control – under American, not Turkish, oversight. “This agreement should transfer responsibility to the Syrian army, whose rebuilding is vital, but it should be under American, not turkish, control,” he stated.
He further outlined a limited Israeli role, focused on intelligence and potential preemptive action. “If intelligence comes about terrorist preparations, the responsibility should be theirs; Israel should check that the necessary steps are taken. If no steps are taken, an air strike will be made. There is no need for ground troops to wander around Syria as if they were on a desert patrol,” Ziv said.
Ziv emphasized Türkiye’s significant and undeniable influence in the regional equation, stating Ankara‘s role “cannot be ignored.”
