“Beijing Express” Contestants Detained by Police, Hampering Race Progress
Contestants Marianne and Lyçaona on “Beijing Express” faced a significant setback after being stopped and questioned by police, losing valuable time and their first-place ranking. The incident, detailed in Telestar, occured after the pair were dropped off on the side of a highway, prompting Marianne to remark, “Not the best place to hitchhike” and Lyçaona to express concern, “I feel like we’re never going to get out of this.“
The police demanded identification, causing frustration as Marianne lamented having to “unpack everything” and Lyçaona observed competitors Raphaël and Sonide overtaking them, stating, “We see Raphaël and Sonide passing us, it’s not possible! That’s fucked up.“
This isn’t an isolated incident on the show. In a previous season set in India, 51 production members were arrested on suspicion of possessing unauthorized satellite phones, with three held in custody for two days. More recently, in the 2024 season, Jérôme and Emma were taken to the local gendarmerie instead of being transported as expected. Similarly, in 2025, Adrien and Patricia benefited from an unexpected police intervention when officers stopped traffic to allow them to cross a highway.
