## Zootopia Sequel continues Disney’s Tradition of Engaging Storytelling
Disney has long utilized animals as compelling stand-ins for human characters, offering a unique lens through which to explore complex narratives and deliver impactful messages. This approach is successfully revisited in the sequel to 2016’s “Zootopia,” a film that grossed over one billion dollars worldwide. However, beneath the charming animal facade, the film tackles contemporary issues like misinformation.
The new installment, directed by Jared Bush, delivers what is described as a classic Disney “animated film” – a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience. The film’s appeal stems from its endearing protagonists: Judy Hopps, the determined rabbit, and Nick Wilde, the sly fox. Their expressive animation and dynamic interplay promptly capture the audience’s attention.

The story centers on Judy and Nick, a police duo navigating the diverse animal city of Zootopia, populated by creatures ranging from sloths and beavers to elephants and zebras. The narrative addresses the prejudice faced by snakes, who were historically marginalized and driven underground. The filmmakers skillfully balance the potential for fear (ophidiophobia is noted as a common phobia) by portraying snakes as victims deserving of reintegration into society, drawing parallels to ancient injustices.
The duo embarks on a journey through varied landscapes - deserts, snowy regions, and mountains – to restore the snakes’ place in Zootopia. This adventure is filled with humor and action, appealing to both children and adults who will appreciate the film’s subtle parodic references to other films.
The review contrasts the success of the animated film with recent Disney live-action films, suggesting the latter have struggled due to an overemphasis on “woke political correctness” leading to questionable creative decisions. “Zootopia 2,” though, effectively conveys themes of diversity and peaceful coexistence through its animal characters, seamlessly integrating the snakes into the community.
The film concludes with a heartwarming declaration of love between Judy and Nick, leaving audiences eager for a potential sequel. As Renate Wagner concludes, “go for it!”
