Seoul, South Korea – A shoulder injury to star player Yoon Sung-joon and a subsequent drug scandal have thrown the Hanyang University rugby team into turmoil ahead of the national competition, as depicted in the SBS drama “Triple.” The series, described as a “comic growth sports drama,” follows the team’s journey under the guidance of manager Ju Garam.
The team secured a strong start in the first leg of the national games, with the performance of Lord and Bae-ji, utilizing a “yellow chewy” strategy, dominating the baseline. However,Yoon Sung-joon’s diagnosis of a rotator cuff rupture cast a shadow over their prospects. Manager Ju Garam questioned whether Yoon Sung-joon should continue, stating, “Do you want to end here?”
adding to the tension, a conflict arose between Ju Garam and reporter Seo Hee-tae (played by Choe Hwan-hwan), who attempted to exploit Yoon Sung-joon’s injury. Garam fiercely defended Yoon Sung-joon, warning Seo Hee-tae, “Don’t touch my baby.” Further pressure came from Yoon Sung-joon’s mother, Won Jung (played by Seo Jung-yeon), who urged Garam to persuade her son to abandon rugby and pursue a career as an agent. Yoon Sung-joon, though, remained resolute, declaring, “I’m going to rugged me.”
Despite his determination, Yoon Sung-joon secretly began using drugs in an attempt to accelerate his recovery. This was discovered by Seo Hee-tae, leading to a crisis for Hanyang University. Principal Seong Jong-man and the director of the shooting department later found steroids in Yoon Sung-joon’s room.
Ju Garam immediately defended Yoon Sung-joon, confirming he had not taken the medication and embracing him in support. Garam then confessed to taking the drugs herself, revealing a diagnosis of severe work-related strain, in an attempt to protect Yoon Sung-joon. This confession occurred publicly, further jeopardizing the team’s chances in the upcoming national competition.
In a poignant epilogue, Ju Garam declined a request for an expedition, stating, “you may not be able to succeed as a rugby player, but the experience of doing your best for your favorite work remains unconditionally.”
