xi and Macron Pledge Strengthened Cooperation During Beijing Talks
Beijing – Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks in Beijing on December 4,2025,reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors. The meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People, underscored the importance of the relationship amidst a period of global geopolitical instability.
Macron stated France is prepared to collaborate with China to boost mutual investment, enhance cooperation in areas including the economy, trade, and renewable energy, and foster deeper cultural exchanges. He emphasized France’s welcoming stance towards increased Chinese investment, promising a “fair and non-discriminatory business surroundings.”
“france is committed to promoting the sound and steady development of Europe-China relations,” Macron said, adding that Europe and China should prioritize dialog and cooperation, and that Europe should pursue “strategic autonomy.” He further highlighted the increased importance of Franco-Chinese cooperation given current global challenges to the multilateral order.
President Xi expressed agreement with Macron’s views on reforming global governance and fostering a more balanced global economy. He stated France and China should jointly fulfill their responsibilities as major countries,uphold multilateralism,and increase collaboration on issues like climate change,biodiversity conservation,and artificial intelligence governance,contributing to global peace and prosperity.
The two leaders also exchanged perspectives on the Ukraine crisis. Xi affirmed China’s support for all peace-promoting efforts and its continued constructive role in seeking a political resolution.He also expressed support for European countries playing a role in establishing a balanced, effective, and sustainable european security architecture.
Following the talks, representatives from both nations signed multiple cooperation agreements covering nuclear energy, agri-food, education, and ecological environment.
Prior to the discussions, President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, hosted a welcome ceremony for President Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, in the Great Hall of the People.
