X-Men Return to a New Psychic School in “X-Men United“
Marvel’s mutant heroes are heading back to school-but not the familiar grounds of the Xavier Mansion. A new era for the X-Men begins in March with “X-Men United #1,” introducing Graymatter Lane, a unique psychic campus designed to train the next generation of mutants while confronting an impending, unspecified threat.
This shift marks a important development for the X-Men, signaling a fresh direction following recent storylines and the launch of the “Shadows of Tomorrow” initiative unveiled at New York comic Con. The series, penned by Eve L. Ewing and illustrated by Tiago Palma, will explore uncharted territory within the X-Men’s world, utilizing a psychic space that allows for surreal and unconventional learning environments. The move to Graymatter Lane represents both a return to the team’s educational roots and a bold step into a new, visually striking chapter.
“Working on the X-team for the past couple of years has been some of the most fun I’ve had writng comics ever,” Ewing stated. She described Graymatter Lane as a collaborative concept born from brainstorming sessions, emphasizing its potential for “weirder and more surreal” storytelling while honoring the legacy of Xavier’s School.
Palma echoed this enthusiasm, calling the project “unreal!” and expressing his excitement over the creative freedom granted in designing the new campus. “Loved the freedom to really play around with different shapes and super trippy ideas for such an iconic space for the group,” he added.
