gennadiy Golovkin to Become President of World Boxing by Acclamation
World Boxing has announced the final list of candidates following a rigorous vetting process conducted by an Autonomous Vetting Panel comprised of three independent, external experts adn supported by Sport resolutions, a leading independent provider of sport-specific arbitration and mediation services. The panel reviewed all applications received in October 2025.
The outcome of this vetting process means Gennadiy Golovkin of Kazakhstan will become the next President of World Boxing. As the sole candidate for the office,Golovkin will be confirmed by unanimous acclamation at the World Boxing Congress on Sunday,November 23,2025,succeeding current President Boris van der Vorst. This process aligns with World Boxing’s Statutes (Elections: Clause 11.15), which permit unanimous acclamation when only one candidate exists for an Office Bearing Position.
Along with the Presidential election, the Congress will also include elections for one Vice-President and two Executive Board positions. the Congress, to be held in Rome on November 23, 2025, will be chaired by World Boxing Vice President Dinah Glykidis.An experienced, independent third-party organization will oversee the elections, with scrutineers present to ensure a fair and equitable process.
World Boxing was established in April 2023 with the goal of maintaining boxing’s position within the Olympic movement. The organization held its first formal meeting with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in May 2024 and received provisional recognition from the IOC as the International Federation governing boxing at the world level on February 25, 2025.
