Florian Wirtz Dismisses Criticism as Liverpool Prepare for Premier League Campaign
Florian Wirtz appears unfazed by recent critiques from English pundits questioning his early performances for Liverpool, with German outlet Bild strongly defending the midfielder and accusing some commentators of bias. The backlash stems from Wirtz’s initial displays following his €140 million transfer, with concerns raised about his impact and consistency.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville recently expressed worry over Wirtz’s performance, stating he “doesn’t seem to care” and wasn’t “delivering on the quality side of things.” This assessment, along with similar comments from Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, prompted a sharp response from Bild, who labeled the criticism as unfounded and suggested a potential motivation rooted in rivalry with Liverpool.
Bild‘s article, titled ‘The Wirtz critics in England have no idea,’ directly challenges the perspectives of the ex-United players, questioning whether their disapproval is driven by ”dislike of Liverpool” or simply a lack of understanding. The German publication asserts Wirtz is “the bearer of hope” for Liverpool and will soon become “the biggest attraction of your league.”
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has also offered a measured assessment, stating he “needs to see something to keep me thinking that this will work.”
Despite the scrutiny, Bild emphatically states Wirtz is not the problem for Liverpool, but rather a key component in their pursuit of major titles, including the Champions League. They conclude by declaring, “Florian Wirtz is not only our best player – but soon also the biggest attraction of your league!”
