UVM⁢ Course‌ Teams to⁤ Undergo Automated Updates this Winter & Spring

BURLINGTON, VT ⁤ – University of Vermont (UVM)‍ course teams in Microsoft Teams are undergoing scheduled updates beginning in january, impacting access to teams ⁤from Fall 2023 courses and beyond. The changes, managed jointly by the Registrar’s Office and Brightspace, aim to streamline team management and align with the lifecycle of course spaces within the learning management ⁢system.

These automated updates are designed to help instructors and students manage Teams effectively while ⁢ensuring data integrity. The system automatically synchronizes team memberships with Brightspace, ⁤but manual adjustments made to team rosters will not be overwritten by the sync process.

Key Dates & Changes:

* Fall 2023 Teams: teams corresponding ⁣to ⁣Fall⁢ 2023⁣ courses will be archived ⁣at the end of‌ december. This includes renaming teams with the ⁤prefix “Exp0126_” (where “0126” signifies January ‌2026),removing all students from the teams, and moving them out of the active teams list.
* Archiving & restoration: Instructors can restore archived ‌teams through the Manage‍ Teams screen in Microsoft Teams.Restored teams will appear under Hidden Teams and can be accessed for completing unfinished work or ⁢othre ⁢needs. ⁣Students will also see restored teams under Hidden Teams in thier ⁢view. Teams can⁤ be re-archived from the‌ Manage Teams screen when no longer needed.
*‍ Important Note: ⁢ UVM IT‍ requests that instructors do not delete course teams. Instead, teams⁤ can be hidden from ⁤view.Deletion will result in ⁤automatic restoration by⁤ the system, as the sync process requires their presence.

Detailed instructions on hiding⁤ and restoring ⁤archived teams are ‌available in the UVM Knowledge Base: https://www.uvm.edu/it/kb/article/restoring-archiving-class-team/.
