The ranking system evaluates universities based on Teaching, Research, International Outlook, and Industry connections – assessing teaching quality, publication credibility, international partnerships, and the translation of research into practical industry applications.
USP logged gains in nine indicators compared to the previous year, including academic reputation, the number of doctoral degrees awarded, budget allocation and the ratio of doctorates to bachelor’s degrees, research reputation and investment, international student and collaboration numbers, and income generated from industry partnerships.
The university’s strength is also evident in its specific faculties; USP’s law school ranks 58th globally, while its education and health sciences programs both place within the top 100 worldwide. This combination of strong professional schools and robust research fields contributes to high scores in research quality and external collaborations.
Experts note that improved rankings can have tangible benefits, helping Brazilian departments secure grants, attract international scholars, and establish joint research initiatives with hospitals and companies. For prospective international students and partners, USP’s position signals a competitive academic environment.
While different ranking systems utilize varying methodologies, USP’s rise reflects sustained improvements in teaching and research capacity, positioning Latin America more prominently in the global discourse on science and innovation.
