‘Astonishing Revival’: God Is Moving with Power in Transnistria Despite Russia‘s Heavy Hand
Tiraspol, Transnistria - Amidst growing anxieties over the war in Ukraine and its potential spillover into the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria, a remarkable spiritual awakening is reportedly taking place, fueled by fervent evangelism and accompanied by accounts of miraculous healings. Church of Christ Savior in Tiraspol is at the center of this movement, witnessing what its pastor, Semenyuk, describes as “unbelievable revival.”
Transnistria,a narrow strip of land bordering Ukraine, remains largely unrecognised internationally and heavily influenced by Russia. Despite the geopolitical pressures and fears of escalating conflict following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,Semenyuk and his congregation are steadfastly focused on spreading the gospel. The church regularly holds evangelistic rallies, and Semenyuk reports consistent testimonies of signs, wonders, and miracles occurring in their wake.
“For exmaple, it can be cancer, and the cancer disappears. Or somebody has a problem with their vision and God fixes their vision. Deaf people can hear,” Semenyuk explained. “I believe all this power is in the gospel and all these miracles happen as people preach the gospel and God equips us for the gospel,to preach the gospel and make disciples.”
Beyond worship, Church of Christ savior is partnering with CBN’s Orphan’s Promise to operate the “school of Life” project, offering vital skills training to the community. Each week, young people receive instruction in computer skills, sewing, photography, english, math, and discipleship classes facilitated through CBN’s Superbook program. Mothers are also benefiting from classes in dance, singing, and cooking, led by orphan’s Promise volunteers. Recognizing the financial hardship faced by many, all classes are offered free of charge, utilizing the church’s basement rooms.
Semenyuk notes a powerful ripple effect: the sounds of youth meetings and ministry activities draw children into the church, leading to their conversion and, eventually, the faith journeys of their parents. “By that relationship with Orphan’s promise we are expanding the Kingdom of God,” he stated.
Despite the looming threat of war, Semenyuk remains resolute in his commitment. “We know our calling. God told us to preach the gospel and make disciples, so nothing changes, war, or no war, doesn’t matter what kind of situation we face around us, we have the same calling all the time.”
