46 Killed in Uganda Bus Collision

At least 46 people have died in​ a head-on collision between two buses in ⁢Uganda, police report. The crash occurred on the KampalaGulu highway,a major route connecting the capital city too the north.

Authorities ⁣initially⁣ reported 63 fatalities before revising the ⁣figure down. Investigators ⁤beleive ‌both buses were attempting to overtake other vehicles – a lorry and a ‍sports utility vehicle (SUV) -​ when the collision occurred.

The Kampala-Gulu highway, approximately 330 kilometers (205 ‍miles) long, is known as one of Uganda’s most risky roads due to its high ⁤volume of traffic and ⁢narrow sections.

Ugandan Police have issued a warning to motorists, urging caution and specifically advising against dangerous overtaking maneuvers. “As ⁢investigations continue, we ‌strongly​ urge all motorists⁢ to exercise maximum caution ​on⁣ the⁤ roads, especially avoiding⁤ dangerous and ‌careless overtaking,⁤ which remains ‍one of the leading causes of crashes in⁣ the country,” a police statement read.
