Title: UBC Thunderbirds Golf: Successful Start to 2025-26 Season with New Leadership

UBC Golf teams Shine at Canada⁤ West Championships, Bolstered by Record alumni Support

CHILLIWACK,⁢ BC – October 28, 2025 – The UBC Thunderbirds golf programs concluded a prosperous first three months of the 2025-26 ‍season with strong performances at the Canada West Championships held at the chilliwack Golf ‍Club. ⁤The UBC ‍women’s team secured their sixth-consecutive ​canada West Championship title,‌ while the men’s squad earned a silver ‌medal, finishing just two shots behind UBCO.

The women’s championship was a closely contested affair, with UBC and UBCO entering the final day tied. A sensational final round, where the ‌team shot seven-under par, propelled UBC to a six-stroke victory. UBC’s Katherine Hao⁤ claimed‍ the ‌individual women’s title, winning by five strokes.

On the men’s side, UBCO defended their conference title, overcoming a three-stroke ⁣deficit to UBC with a nine-stroke improvement on the final day.

Beyond on-course ‌success, UBC Golf experienced⁣ a​ surge in​ support during September’s annual Back​ the ‘Birds Day, achieving remarkable ‍fundraising‍ results. ⁣A record number of supporters, including a strong turnout of golf alumni, contributed generously, with funds directly​ supporting student-athlete scholarships.

“The⁤ tremendous support⁤ from within the Thunderbirds community has certainly been both refreshing and invigorating for the dedicated and talented student-athletes ​and staff that comprise the⁢ UBC‌ Golf program,” a UBC Athletics spokesperson stated.

The teams are currently focused on academics and will enjoy a holiday break before resuming competition in early February. The‍ men’s team will kick off the back half of their season at ⁣the NCAA Division 1 bill Cullum Invitational in Somis, California on ​February ​2, while the women’s team will compete at​ the NCAA Division 1 UCR Soboba Classic in Jacinto, ⁢California beginning February 6.

UBC ‌Athletics is currently conducting ‌a search for a full-time head coach to provide ongoing leadership for the Thunderbirds Golf program.
