Man Charged with Murder of Right-Wing Influencer Charlie Kirk, Death Penalty Sought
OREM, Utah – Tyler Robinson, 22, of Washington, Utah, has been charged with aggravated murder, weapons offenses, and obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting death of political activist Charlie Kirk. prosecutors announced they will seek the death penalty.
Kirk, 31, a prominent conservative figure and close ally of former US president Donald Trump, was fatally shot in the neck last Wednesday at a rally held at Utah Valley University.
According to prosecutors, Robinson’s DNA was found on the trigger of the alleged murder weapon. A note outlining plans to kill Kirk was reportedly discovered under the suspect’s keyboard. authorities also allege Robinson instructed his roommate to delete ”incriminating texts” related to the killing and remain silent during police questioning.
The obstruction of justice charges stem from allegations that Robinson disposed of the firearm and clothing worn during the incident. County attorney Jeff Gray stated that “aggravating factors” in the case include the belief that Robinson targeted Kirk due to his political views and that the shooting occurred in the presence of children.
Robinson has been held without bail since his arrest. Investigators have interviewed family members and conducted a search of his family home, located approximately 240 miles southwest of the shooting location.
