Turkish Military Cargo Plane Crashes Near Georgia-Azerbaijan Border
Sighnaghi, Georgia – A Turkish military C-130 cargo plane crashed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, near the border with Azerbaijan. The aircraft carried 20 Turkish personnel, including the flight crew, according to the Turkish Defense Ministry.
The plane whent down in Sighnaghi municipality, and an inquiry into the cause of the crash is underway, reported Georgian news agency Interpress. Rescue workers were dispatched to the scene following the incident.
Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan addressed the crash in ankara, expressing his condolences and stating his administration would work to manage the situation.He offered prayers for “our martyrs,” a term he uses to refer to military personnel who die in service. “God willing, we will overcome this accident with minimal difficulties. May God rest the souls of our martyrs, and let us be with them through our prayers,” Erdogan said.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also responded to the news, stating his party had discussed the “tragic news about the loss of soldiers” in the accident.
The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft widely used for cargo and troop transport, capable of operating from unprepared runways. Its adaptable design allows for various roles, including airborne assault, reconnaissance, and even aerial firefighting, making it a primary tactical airlift aircraft for numerous militaries worldwide.
