Tony Khan Addresses Adam Cole‘s Future, Hints at Potential In-Ring Retirement
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) president Tony Khan delivered a somber update on the status of Adam Cole, suggesting a full return to the ring is unlikely due to a history of injuries, including head trauma. Khan’s comments, made during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, mark the most definitive statement yet regarding Cole’s wrestling future since he stepped away from in-ring competition at AEW all In: texas.
Cole’s career has been punctuated by significant setbacks, most notably a year-long absence due to an ankle injury. Khan highlighted the severity of that injury, stating, “That alone could have been a career-ending injury.” Despite a triumphant return and subsequent championship win – becoming the TNT Champion in 2025 - Khan expressed relief that Cole was able to communicate when he no longer felt comfortable wrestling.
“I’m just glad that he was able to tell us when he didn’t feel good about wrestling anymore,” Khan said.
While not definitively closing the door on a potential return, Khan indicated any future involvement would require careful consideration. “I think it would have to be the right situation for Adam to wrestle again,” he explained. “I always want to look at it and evaluate, does this make sense, and is there an prospect to do this safely, where it’s going to be a good outcome for everybody.”
Khan emphasized that Cole will always have a place within AEW, even if it’s not as an active wrestler. He pointed to Cole’s skills as a commentator and show host, stating, “He’s great for that. He’s a great talent. He could be involved in a lot of things.”
Since AEW All In: Texas, Cole has maintained a low profile, primarily focusing on hosting All Elite Arcade with Evil Uno and engaging with the gaming community on social media, with his recent tweets centered around video games.
