A Colorado man was fatally stabbed while vacationing in tobago, Trinidad and Tobago Police confirmed Wednesday. Authorities have a suspect in custody as thay investigate the killing of Christopher Brown.
The stabbing occurred in the coastal village of Castara, a popular tourist destination. Brown’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from local tourism officials and raised concerns about safety on the island. The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation strongly condemned the “horrific act of violence” and extended condolences to Brown’s family and friends.
According to a statement provided to ABC News, the agency expressed being “profoundly saddened and deeply disturbed” by the murder in the typically peaceful community.
Police have not released details about the suspect or the circumstances leading to the stabbing, but confirmed an investigation is underway. The incident underscores the potential risks faced by tourists,even in generally safe destinations,and could impact Tobago’s tourism sector.
“The Division strongly condemns this horrific act of violence and extends our heartfelt condolences to the family,friends and loved ones of the deceased during this unimaginably tough time,” the agency stated.
