Tigres Femenil Reaches Eleventh Liga MX Femenil Final, defeating Cruz Azul 2-1
Monterrey, Mexico – Tigres Femenil secured their place in the eleventh final of the Liga MX Femenil, overcoming Cruz Azul 2-1 in the second leg of the Apertura 2025 semifinal at Estadio universitario. The victory gives Tigres a 3-2 aggregate win, sending them through to compete for their seventh league championship.
The decisive match saw an early goal from Spanish forward Jennifer Hermoso in the 17th minute, setting the tone for Tigres’ dominance. Diana Ordóñez extended the lead to 2-0 with a header in the 64th minute. While Cruz Azul managed a late goal through a penalty kick converted by Deneisha Blackwood in the 89th minute, it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
Estadio universitario continues to be a formidable advantage for Tigres, having closed out ten of their previous semifinal appearances at home, with only one loss - a 1-0 defeat against América in the Clausura 2023 - marring their record.
This semifinal matchup marks another instance of Tigres eliminating Cruz Azul in league play. The teams first met in a final phase during the Apertura 2021 tournament, where Tigres won decisively with an aggregate score of 8-0. Tigres boasts a strong record against Cruz Azul, with 12 wins and four draws in 16 total matches as the inception of women’s soccer in Mexico.
Jennifer Hermoso’s opening goal was pivotal, shifting the momentum of the match after a strong start from Cruz Azul. The Amazonas have now maintained an undefeated record against Cruz Azul in both regular season and playoff matches within the Liga MX femenil.
