Montana Mayor Highlights City’s Sporting Successes Ahead of Levski Match
Montana, bulgaria – The mayor of Montana is celebrating a year of meaningful sporting achievements for the city, culminating in Wednesday’s highly anticipated match against Levski Sofia.The game represents the biggest sporting event of the year for Montana, coming on the heels of successes in women’s basketball and football.
The mayor emphasized the consistent performance of Montana’s women’s basketball team, noting they haven’t fallen outside the top five in Bulgaria for the last 15 years. The team recently secured victories in the national championship, cup, and super cup, and currently leads the Adriatic League.two key players,Diana Dimitrova and Gergana Ivanova,where instrumental in the national team’s recent 66-62 win over Montenegro. The team is also unique in Bulgarian women’s basketball, having maintained continuous operation for the past 35 years, despite the decline of other major women’s basketball programs. Montana’s football team has also returned to the elite division after a strong performance.
“I have no reason to be unhappy when we know what others have,” the mayor stated, expressing satisfaction with the return of fans to sporting events. However,the mayor also voiced frustration with a lack of state support for sports,contrasting Montana’s situation with cities like Celje,Slovenia,which supports teams in eight different sports despite being smaller in size. The mayor acknowledged the dedication of the 20-25 individuals actively involved in supporting team sports in Montana, warning that their absence would significantly impact the city’s sporting landscape.
