Southwest Florida Comic Con Celebrates Fandom with Cosplay, competitions & Collectibles
FORT MYERS, FL – Southwest Florida was transformed into a haven for comic book, anime, and pop culture enthusiasts this past weekend as SW-FloridaCon drew fans from across the region. The convention featured a bustling floor of vendors, nonstop entertainment, and a vibrant cosplay competition, offering something for attendees of all ages.
The event showcased a diverse range of interests, from Pokémon to vintage collectibles, according to organizers. Stages hosted anime trivia, classic video game battles, and a lip-sync competition where participants presented one-minute, tiktok-style routines, with winners receiving tiaras and themed sashes.
A highlight of SW-FloridaCon was the Cosplay Competition, open to all skill levels and featuring costumes inspired by cartoons, comics, anime, video games, manga, novels, or movies. With a cap of 150 participants, contestants showcased their creations in a runway-style showdown. Judges selected three finalists per category based on costume, creativity, and stage presence, with audience cheers ultimately determining the winners who received trophies.
“Fort Myers has an amazing cosplay community with incredible talent-people put countless hours into their costumes,” said event organizer De Santo. “The Cosplay Competition is free to enter,with registration at the event.”
De Santo emphasized the convention’s appeal to those seeking nostalgic items and a sense of community. “Many people come searching for items that bring back childhood memories or celebrate their favorite characters,” she said. “It’s a fun experience for the whole family, with so much to see and do-you won’t be disappointed.”
