Supermarket Chain Offers Double Value for Pennies as U.S. Mint Ends Production
Price Chopper and Market 32 supermarkets are offering shoppers double the value of their pennies following the U.S. Mint’s cessation of penny production on Nov. 12. The promotion,designed to assist customers with cash transactions,will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 16.
Customers can exchange pennies for store gift cards at a rate of two cents per penny, effectively doubling their value. Such as, $10 in pennies will yield a $20 gift card.
“Cash transactions remain an critically important part of how we serve our customers,and for those who prefer to pay with cash,we want to make sure we can continue providing the same great checkout experience-right down to the penny,” said Blaine Bringhurst,president of Market 32 and Price Chopper,in a statement.
The offer applies to both rolled and loose pennies, with a minimum exchange amount of 50 cents and a maximum of $100 per customer. pennies can be exchanged at the customer service desk of participating stores.
Price Chopper and Market 32 locations are found in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York.
The chain will also launch a new holiday rewards program on Nov. 16.
